Hunter Holmes Moss, Jr. was born on May 26, 1874 in Parkersburg, WV. After working in a bank as a young man, Moss attended West Virginia University for law and graduated in 1896. He was then admitted to the bar and opened his practice in Parkersburg. Anna Baker Ambler was born Parkersburg to Benjamin Mason and Nancy Baker Ambler on December 15, 1878. Anna Baker Ambler married Hunter Holmes Moss, Jr. in 1902. Moss served as prosecuting attorney for Wood County between 1900 and 1904, then as judge of the fourth circuit court in the same county between 1904 and 1912.

Moss was elected to Congress and served as a Representative starting March 4, 1913. Moss was a supporter of women’s suffrage and spoke at a Suffrage Day held in Parkersburg in 1914. In June 1914, Anna Moss and three other WV women—Clarabel J. McNeilan (Press Chairman of the West Virginia Equal Suffrage Association) and Mrs. G. W. Lowe and Elizabeth Geary of Harpers Ferry—traveled to Washington D.C. to press for support of the Bristow-Mondell Federal Woman Suffrage Resolution (the 1914 version of the Susan B. Anthony Amendment). Hunter H. Moss and fellow representative Matthew M. Neely made the introduction to Chairman Henry of the Rules Committee, allowing the women to inquire when the Committee would pass the resolution out for a vote.

Hunter Homes Moss, Jr. fell ill in 1915 and died in office on July 15, 1916. Anna Moss died in Charlottesville. VA on November 24, 1963.
