Okey L. Patteson, 23rd Governor of West Virginia, was responsible for developing the West Virginia Turnpike System. He began his political career as a city councilman. Patteson was an automobile dealer and later served a term as Fayette County Sherriff. He and J.A. Blackburn would go on to sell the dealership and focus more on their real estate business. Their firm was responsible for the development of Bradley in nearby Raleigh County.
