Backstory and Context

The hamlet of Rock Creek Center was never platted, although it appears as a named place on the 1866 county map. As a central place in the township, it was a rather natural development to put core businesses and a post office in this location. At one time, in addition to the school, the hamlet had the post office, a Blacksmith, cobbler, tile mill, and Hardin’s General Store. Now all that is left of the school is a memorial monument in the yard of the equipment repair shop west of the intersection, a second repair shop south of the intersection and about 11 homes.
