Old Haymarket Post Office Building

George A. Hulfish purchased the land on which The Old Haymarket Post Office Building sat in 1883 (Old Post Office). A structure was built on this land in 1885 which for years served the purpose of the Township Hall (Old Post Office). Later, in 1916, the building was purchased by Albert Rust who converted the building into a drugstore (Old Post Office). Inside of the Haymarket Drug Store, one could have bought ice cream, sodas, milk, sandwiches, and sundries (Old Post Office). The drugstore operated for 17 years until Doctor Beverly retired. Upon the retirement of the doctor, the space was bought by Cary Smith who was the Haymarket Postmaster (Old Post Office). The building served as the town post office until 1980 when it was relocated to Jefferson Street (Old Post Office). Since the post office has relocated the space has been an antique store and currently homes Washington Street Realty.

After the relocation of the post office, the building housed a well-loved antique store called The Red Rooster Antique Store. Today, the historic building is home to Washington Street Realty. While it has been over 40 years since the building served as the town post office and the space has gone through two owners, the history of the building still remains . In 2012, the original building was restored. Today, the original doors from the post office can be seen with just a short walk across Washington Street. The doors are on display, hanging within the Haymarket Museum (Old Post Office).
