Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
The Washington Methodist Church, established in 1821, still has an active congregation that meets weekly 200 years later. The town of Washington itself was built around a Methodist revival camp founded by William Stevenson, built on a sandy hill five miles southwest of Henry's Chapel. The property the current building sits on was purchased in 1860 by the congregation from Henry D. Trimble. By 1867, the building was completed and is the oldest church building in Washington.
