The Sallie House
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
The Sallie House was constructed during the turn of the century and was owned by an Atchison physician who used the front of the house as an office and examination room. The doctor and his family lived upstairs. Local lore shares the family of one of the many patients from the era, a six-year-old girl named Sallie who had collapsed from abdominal pain and was diagnosed with appendicitis. The doctor thought the appendix would soon bust so he immediately provided anesthetics and began surgery. The anesthetics were ineffective and the girl screamed out as the doctor worked to save her life. Suddenly her screaming stopped as she grew pale and went limp, dying on the operating table. In recent years, the home has garnered significant attention from those who claim that it is the site of paranormal activity.
