St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church

St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church was a small parish located in Vandalia, New York. It is located just a couple miles west of Allegany, NY, on 9 Mile Road. The church was decommissioned in 2007, and its parish was merged with the St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany.

The church was established in 1901 and was a place of congregation for the people of Vandalia for almost 110 years, closing in 2011. The closure was part of the Journey in Faith and Grace, an initiative started by Bishop Edward Kmiec of Buffalo to help combat the dwindling amount of parishioners and priests in the Western New York diocese. St. John's is located between Allegany and the Seneca Nation of Indians, so people from both areas prayed together. Father Timothy J. Quinn of St. Bonaventure University gave masses at St. John's, and formed a great relationship with the Seneca Nation.
