Clara Amelia Erion-Thomas was born in Marshfield, WI, on February 11, 1876, to John Erion and Auguste(Backhaus). Clara siblings were Mary Hildegard(Erion) Mavrake, Anna Veronica (Erion) Thompson and John C. Erion.[1] On June 27th, 1887, Marshfield had a huge fire, destroying the majority of the downtown area. Clara's family's house that was located downtown burned down, along with 250+ other buildings.[2] Clara Amelia Erion-Thomas married Jacob Thomas on 9/22/1896 in Wood County.Clara Amelia Erion-Thomas passed away in the year of 1950. [1] Marshfield Cemetery has three different cemeteries in the 58 acres of land.Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery and Hillside CemeteryCity of Marshfield has 28 acres, consisting of 16 sections and 11,036 burial spaces. Gate of Heaven has 25 acres and 17 sections. Immanuel Lutheran has 5 acres consisting of 4 sections.Cemetery office hours are 7:30am-4:00pm weekdays.Anyone is welcome to visit the cemetery itself during daylight hours.

[1] Mrs. Barbara Haebig was born on December 3rd, 1847 in Germany. Her maiden name was Barbara Deschler. At the age of 17, she came to America with her parents on a sailboat.[1] Barbara married a blacksmith named John B Haebig in New York on June 24, 1866. John and Barbara moved to Menasha, WI in 1868 and lived there for 10 years before moving to Marshfield,WI.[1] Barbara and John have several children, Mrs. Mary (Haebig) Bayer, Miss. Rose Haebig, Mrs. John Brackendorf, Edward P. Haebig of Marshfield, and their son John B. Haebig lives in Kenosha.[1] In 1933 Barbara Haebig died in her home on North Central Ave in Marshfield. Her grave site is located at the Gateway of Heaven in Marshfield, WI.

In 1879, Barbara Haebig sewed the first American Flag ever to be used in a 4th of July parade in Marshfield. Barbara's husband, John Haebig, volunteered Barbara to create the flag for the parade. Barbara and her daughter worked day and night because they only had a day and a half to create the flag. The 4th of July parade started on 3rd street and crossed over to 4th street ending at the pleasantville district. The flag was used for several years until it destroyed by the Marshfield fire in 1887.

[1] Anna Lathrop (maiden name Jackson) was born October 23, 1853, to Michael and Annette Gleson Jackson, in Oberlin, Ohio.[1] Anna Lathrop's parents encouraged Anna to go to school, which was very uncommon at that time in history. Anna went to school and college in Oberlin, Ohio.In college she met her husband Henry Lathrop. Henry was going to college to become a doctor and went to Chicago for his medical schooling, leaving Anna behind.[1] During Henry's medical schooling, Mrs. Upham asked the college if any doctor would be interested in working at the hospital in Marshfield, WI. Henry accepted and moved to Marshfield. In 1890 Anna moved to reunite with Henry in Marshfield, WI and they lived on central ave in an apartment above the old Walgreens.[2] In 1887 Henry and Anna lost everything in the Marshfield fire. After the fire Henry and Anna to move a house built for them by Hans Bille at 308 E. 15th Street Marshfield, WI.In 1909 to be closer to his patients, Henry and Anna swapped houses with Wm. Noll, Jr., who lived at 117 S. Cherry Street Marshfield, WI.[1] Anna sat on the library council board and loved animals. Anna became the president of the Wisconsin Humane Society.Anna was voted in to sit on the common council in Marshfield and served in 1923, 1924, and 1926. In 1925, Anna joined the traveler's club and would entertain people by showing them photos of their European tours.

[1] Anna Lathrop went to college and met her husband, Dr. Henry Allison Lathrop. Moved to Marshfield and lost everything in the 1887 Marshfield Fire. Served on the first Marshfield Library Board and also served as president of the Wisconsin Humane Society. First female that served on the Marshfield City Counsel.

A Civil War soldier in the Wisconsin 2nd Infantry, Company G. Was wounded in the Battle of Wilderness. Worked for Louis Rivers at his hotel in Necedah, Wisconsin and then Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Gabriel "Dolf" Lupient

Of Company A of the Wisconsin 127th Infantry. Served in France. Died when he threw he body on a grenade to save the lives of his men. Buried in France, then moved to Flanders Field at the Marshfield Cemetery.

Sgt. Williard D. Purdy Gravesite

[1] Worked for the Upham Manufacturing Company at the time of the Great Marshfield Fire in 1887. Became a fireman for the City of Marshfield after the fire. Co-owner of Lang &amp; Scharmann Machine Shop &amp; Foundry.

Otto Scharmann

[1] Wife of Governor William H. Upham. Went to medical school and became a doctor. One of the organizers of the First Presbyterian Church. Started the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Also, started the Marshfield Library in her home.

Mary Upham

[1] Served in the 2nd Wisconsin Regiment of the Civil War and fought in the Battle of Bull Run. Met Abraham Lincoln while he was a Prisoner of War and later went to West Point and served as a bodyguard for President Jefferson Davis. Served as governor for the state of Wisconsin 1895-1897.
