Kamala Harris, the first African American woman to become vice president of the United States, was born on October 20th of 1964 in Oakland, California. For a large portion of her childhood until the age of 12, Harris resided in this single-family home with her mother and sister. In 1970, the home was remodeled into Harris' family home in the upstairs portion of the house with the downstairs portion being a preschool.
