Theodore Roosevelt was going to be in a presidential campaign speech on October 14, 1912, when he was shot directly to his heart at the former Gilpatrick Hotel. The shot was not deadly because its force was slowed by a glasses case and a manuscript of at least 50 pages that were inside of the breast pocket.
The person responsible for the assassination attempt was John Flammang Schrank, a German man that was found insane after saying that he shot Roosevelt because no one should look for a third term as a president, and he said that it was the ghost of William McKinley that made him shot Roosevelt.
