The Center preserves and interprets the natural history of the area through a variety of programs, trails, and a visitors center that features exhibits and videos that take visitors on a tour of the ecology and history of the region from Hernando De Soto's expedition in the 17th century to the present. The Center was built from sales tax revenue approved by the state legislature in 1996
