Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
The Museum of Glass opened in July, 2002, the dream and brainchild of former university President Phil Phibbs and famous glass artist Dale Chihuly. The museum combines working artist studios with galleries, classes, special lectures and exhibitions, and educational programs for all ages. The museum also serves as a symbol of Tacoma's efforts to revitalize the downtown area and beautify Thea Foss Waterway.

Architect Arthur Erickson conceptualized the museum as based around an tilted glass cone. Inside the museum, this design creates a stunning visual of space, steel, and glass.
