Peter and Dosa Durante

A distant cousin of 20^th century entertainer Jimmy Durante, Peter Gabriel Durante was an Atlantic Beach resident who founded a credit services business in Jacksonville and was a 20-year veteran of the Air Force. His wife of 42 years, Dosa Marie, was a mother of three and a grandmother of eight.

Mrs. Durante, who was born in Fisk, Missouri, was very active in Duval County politics, having run campaigns for many Republican candidates at the Beaches, including former Jacksonville mayor and UNF president John Delaney. She was a member of Neptune Beach Baptist Church, and died following routine surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital at age 56. She is survived by three sons, Peter, Jeffrey and Joseph; and eight grandchildren. The Durante headstone is one of the largest at the cemetery. The plot also includes a bronze government marker indicating that Peter Durante served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era.
