Discover the owners of the remarkable home, the Bierbower family. Descendants of German immigrants, who had left the abolitionist state of Pennsylvania in 1837 to settle in the slave-holding frontier lands of Kentucky in the busy river town of Maysville, where they became successful local entrepreneurs and international history makers.
This home is a safe house that was located along the Underground Railroad. Inside, you will find hidden chambers where runaway slaves were hidden, documents, and artifacts that inform the guests about slavery in history. This house is a stop on the Underground Railroad Driving Tour which cost $15.00 which lasts approx. 4 hours and also The Freedom Trail underground Railroad Tour which costs $20.00 and lasts approx. 5 hours in Maysville, Kentucky.
These friends of justice aided the fugitive slave, who had made the decision to lift the chains of oppression.
