Text-to-speech Audio
The Destin History & Fishing Museum preserves the history of Destin and the town's fishing industry. The museum contains a long wall of examples of fish that live in the Gulf of Mexico as well as exhibits that display fishing related objects such as fishing rods and reels. A highlight is a split bamboo rod with the original Penn Reel that was owned by author Ernest Hemingway. Another notable item is the oldest seine fishing boat, the Primrose, that was built in 1925. Numerous photographs of the town and its people are also displayed in the museum. Additionally, the oldest post office in Destin is next to the museum.
