The Avalon History Center opened in 2001 and features items and memorabilia related to local history. These include fire fighting equipment, Native American artifacts, lifeguard and beach patrol items, WWII uniforms and items, items from the Avalon School, and donated medical equipment. A 1925 life boat is also displayed in the museum. The Avalon Historical Society operates the center. Throughout the year, the society holds various events such as the Historic House Tour, and the Clamshell Pitching Competition.
