Keyport Historical Society
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
The Keyport Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the city's history through its collection of artifacts and public programming. It was founded in 1972 and originally located in a building owned by the Keansburg Steamboat Company, which used it is as a machine shop, tool shed, and sleeping quarters. The society moved in in the mid 1970s and restored the building after many years of neglect. Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy destroyed the building in 2012 and swept away its collection of 4,000 items. The society bought a new historic home to be its headquarters in 2015 and is in the process of reacquiring as many lost items as possible.
