Visitors to the Roanoke River Lighthouse & Maritime Museum in downtown Plymouth will learn a lot about the town's maritime history and culture. They are two separate buildings: the Lighthouse is a replica of a light built in 1866 (which was eventually destroyed by a bad storm), and the Maritime Museum is located across the street. Visitors are allowed to climb to the top of the lighthouse. The museum features exhibits that cover the various industries in the area including fishing, farming and forestry.
