Opened in 1992 in the Old Federal building, the River of History Museum preserves the history of Sault Ste. Marie, the St. Mary River Canal, and the surrounding region. It covers the past beginning with the glaciers that created the river through the development of the canal. Native American history and culture as well as the French fur trading industry are also explored. It moved to its current location in 2009.
