This cemetery dates back to the time of the Civil War and serves as the final resting place of many Civil War veterans. The most famous member of the military to be buried here is World War II Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Elmer Bigelow, who died from wounds sustained while attempting to save his ship after it was hit by a mine
