Ishpeming City Hall
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
Ishpeming City Hall was built in 1891, during the midst of the Upper Peninsula's prosperous mining years. The striking Romanesque style architecture reflects Ishpeming's growth as a key mining town (the nearby Cliffs Shafts Mine was one of the largest in the peninsula). For a time the building housed the city's library and jail in addition to the administrative offices. Today the building continues to be the town's city hall.
