RLC Native Garden - Elderberry
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
At the top of the stairway is an Elderberry tree. The Tongva called this the “Tree of Music” because its branches and stems could be made into clapper sticks, flutes, and even whistles. In addition, its fruit added flavor to the Tongva diet and its flowers had medicinal properties.
DIRECTIONS: From the top of the stairs, the road leads in several directions: to the left is the picnic area; to the right are the historic adobe, the orchard path to the backyard, the Visitor Center and Outdoor Market, and the parking lots.
