Text-to-speech Audio
Nicknamed "The Hawaiian Aquarium," the Maui Ocean Center is the state's premier aquarium. Founded in 1998, the center features a large 750,000 gallon fish tank with a 54ft. tunnel that visitors can walk through to get a good luck at all the fish, turtles, stingrays and other creatures in the tank. All of the animals and corals (the center features the largest collection of live Pacific corals) are native to Hawaii. The center also features numerous exhibits, interactive displays, and outdoor touch pools. The relationship between Hawaiians and the ocean is also a major focus of the center and is explored in the Hawaiians and the Sea exhibit as well as other exhibits and events.
