This historical monument/marker is located at the base of Sentinel Peak, where the O'odam Native Americans and their ancestors had lived for 4,000 years. The monument features the marker inscription and a sculpture depicting the "first sighting" of Europeans to the area. A native man, woman, and child look out towards Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino and his companions, who arrived in the area in 1692. Kino's encounter with the O'odham is the first known recorded visit to the Tucson region.
