The Canton Hotel (also known as The Brick Inn), situated on the Cumberland River - now Barkley Lake, was constructed in 1819 by Abraham Boyd a U.S. Senator and friend of President Andrew Jackson. The hotel, now a private residence, has recently been restored and plans include its operation as a bed and breakfast. Famous guests include President James K. Polk and Jenny Lind.
