The Outer Banks History Center is a regional archives and research library administered by the North Carolina State Archives and located in Manteo, on historic Roanoke Island, North Carolina. Its holdings document the history, development and growth of the North Carolina coast. The archive is located within Roanoke Island Festival Park where history comes alive with sailing ships and early settlement sites along with the Roanoke Adventure Museum, an interactive exhibit of 400 years of Outer Banks History.

Backstory and Context

The Outer Banks History Center is a part of Roanoke Island Festival Park; an interactive experience that includes The Elizabeth II, a 16th Century Representative Ship that includes interpretive staff/sailors to answer questions about historic Roanoke Voyages and about the ship. There are also exhibits depicting the first settlement in America, the ill-fated Lost Colony.
