This historic marker is located next to the Calumet City welcome sign and was dedicated by the Calumet City Historical Society. The marker indicates that Lincoln's funeral procession made its way through Calumet City about two blocks north of the marker at ten in the morning on May 1, 1865. also summarizes the history of Calumet City which includes the interesting fact that land near the marker was once owned by Lincoln's political rival Stephen Douglas. Similar markers that designate the location and time of the funeral procession can be found throughout Indiana and Illinois.
