Galveston's grandest home, this Victorian mansion was completed in 1892 for attorney, politician, and businessman Walter Gresham. Gresham is best known as one of the founders of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad. The Victorian mansion survived the city's storm of 1900 with minimal damage while nearly everything around it was destroyed. Guests can take a guided tour and marvel at its fireplace made of silver, bronze dragons, and ornate woodwork and stained glass windows.
