On the night of April 16, 1865, John Pemberton received a saber wound and a gunshot wound at this location. These wounds led Dr. Pemberton to aggressively pursue a morphine alternative since he himself became addicted to morphine. His eventual solution was a formula now known as "Coca-Cola."
