Dedicated in 2002, the statue of Jesus Christ 'with his arms down and extended in an open loving gesture' glistens on Marquette University's campus. The statue is located just west of the Holthusen Hall on Wisconsin Avenue.

Backstory and Context

The statue was dedicated to Marquette University as a gift from Dr. and Mr. Leslie Webber and family, in honor of their son and brother, Richard (1962-1983), who died while racing with Marquette sailing team in Lake Michigan his senior year.
Norman Christianson created the statue for the Webber family. He is a public sculptor who received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he specialized in graphic art and sculpture. He has participated in the Wisconsin State Fair Festival of the Arts and the West Bend City of Sculptures.
