Fort Halifax was built in 1754 to protect settlements and served as a garrison from 1754-1766. Fort Halifax was a fort on the north bank of the Sebasticook River. Its which is the oldest blockhouse in the United States. It is on the Kennebec River in Winslow Maine. It was declared a historic landmark in 1978. The building opens once a year on fourth of July.
