This Agency was the first Indian Agency opened by the Federal government in Western Oklahoma in 1859 in an abandoned Kichai village. Agents controlled relations with Wichitas and exiled tribes. The Agency was attacked by federal Indian forces which eventually caused it close until the Civil War. After that incident the agency was relocated. The agency gave Native Americans the opportunity to be able to have their own information through their own people.
