In the early 1960s, President Stanley Martin saw a need for a Nursing Department, and began to work with the former Union Protestant Hospital in Clarksburg to make this a reality. In the very early years, the department was housed in the former Benson House which now serves as the Erickson Alumni Center.
In 1971, Middleton Hall was built to house the Nursing Department
Bishop Middleton, of the Western Pennsylvania Conference from 1960 until his death in 1968., served on the West Virginia Wesleyan College Board of Trustees as an ex-office member. He was on our campus many times, and spoke here as well. When he died in 1965, the people of the Western Pennsylvania Conference donated $250,000 in his honor. These funds helped us to have Middleton Hall.
