Backstory and Context

Hannah Finch-Phillips painted one of the utility boxes in LaVern Johnson Park in 2021. She created an illusion piece so that the box would blend in with the surrounding scenery. LaVern Johnson Park is a historic park adjacent to Lyons downtown. The St. Vrain River runs along red cliffs that house golden eagles. Each side of the utility box shows a different piece of LaVern Johnson Park; the cliffs, the recreation fields, and the trees that fill the park.
Creative Outlets is funded by the Lyons Community Foundation (LCF). The Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission hopes to continue this program with the support of the LCF to take utilitarian aspects of our community and turn them into something beautiful.
