Soaring Bird marks the entry to Bohn Park and Crystal way. It is designated as an honor to Crystal White and the many volunteer citizens who came together to help Lyons rebuild after the 2013 floods. Crystal Way, the confluence circle, the Rocky Mountain Botanical Gardens, the fruit orchard, and the Bell of Renewal all symbolize hope and determination in this section of town that was so dramatically affected during the floods.

John King: Artist statement/Inherent Themes: -

Look Up to locate yourself. The wider horizon is our source and destination. - The Calligraphy of bird wings gliding overhead. Information comes from connected observation. - Our relationship with Nature informs our Inspiration. I live on a river in Lyons, Colorado and make my artworks there. I am inspired by the movements of Nature, the wind and water and the interaction of the viewer. My work often finds its way to urban display sites. My work is friendly, connecting, optimistic and about this important moment. I have been creating kinetic wind activated artworks for many years. They are durable and long lived. They come alive.
