Day's Catch by Shohini Gosh

Day's Catch is a work by Highland's Ranch-based sculptor artist Shohini is originally from India. She graduated from the renowned Sir J.J. School of Art, in Mumbai, India in 1993, where she continued as a Lecturer at her Alma Marta while pursuing her art. Since moving to the United States in 1998, She she has developed her style from years of experience of creating across two continents, balancing the Asian approach to artistic aesthetics and the Western world of art called Humanism, which—at its most basic—places renewed values on intrinsic human anatomic knowledge, and the experience of this world. Sculpting and drawing from her multiple environments has nurtured and developed a unique global sentiment of humanity which is portrayed in her art with an eclectic approach to her body of work, form and sculpture. Her Art work is often described as being figurative, a stylistic representation of everyday fun, moving and powerful.

The Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission on behalf of the Town of Lyons is proud to display her work as part of our heARTS of LYONS art all over town public art program.

Artist Statement: For over 32 years, I have been sculpting professionally. During that time, I have created public art and sculptures on three continents and in several countries, including the United States, China, Thailand and India. My Bronzes are on view in public spaces at Hudson Gardens, CO; Gillette, WY; Sioux Falls, SD; Mason City, IA; St. Paul, MN and more. In addition, they appear at the Denver Art Museum in Denver, Colorado and the Underwater Museum of Art in Florida.

I am a women sculptor of color. My sculptures can be best described as figurative, stylistic representations of moments in life, a zeitgeist of my surroundings. I love creating in 3-D and believe in bringing art outside white walls and into public spaces to create a sense of community pride. Public art placemaking is the art of creating memorable experiences that are potentially transformative. Just like a house is transformed into a home with art, a space is transformed into a place with sculpture.
