Item 16 of 20
Metropolitan Methodist Episcopal Church in Harrington was the first African American church founded in the area.

Organized in early 1873 by a group of trustees headed by James Friends, it
purchased land to build the church, which was dedicated on October 8, 1893. The church was
extensively remodeled in the 1920s, and it remains virtually unchanged to this day.
