This building was the birthplace of Bishop Leontine Turpeau Current Kelly (1920-2012), who in 1984 became the first African-American woman to serve as a bishop in the United Methodist Church. Bishop Kelly was the daughter of Rev. David D. Turpeau, Sr. and Ila Marshall Turpeau. The church built this parsonage in 1897.
