This sculpture was erected by Carroll County to honor the Indiana soldiers and sailors who fought during the Civil War. The sculpture’s base depicts relief panels on each side to honor different soldiers at their respective battles. The sculptor was Rudolf Schwarz who also completed the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in Indianapolis and likely drew influence from this for the Delphi piece. There is also debate on when the sculpture was erected with signs pointing to sometime in the 1880s.
