The Canal House in Connersville, IN was originally constructed to be an office for Canal administration and workers. However it eventually became much more than that. It was used to house canal workers at one point and it also eventually became a bank, veterinary hospital, and the private residence of one of the Connersville mayors.

The Canal House in Connersville, IN was originally constructed to be an office for Canal administration and workers. However it eventually became much more than that. It was used to house canal workers at one point but eventually became a bank, veterinary hospital, and the private residence of one of the Connersville mayors. It is fitting as we just were talking about how important waterways were during this time when it was built in 1843. The White Water Canal company purchased the lot in 1843 and then 5 years later sold about half the lot for only $500 less than it originally bought the ENTIRE lot for. Huge flooding problems in 1848 ended the company and therefore their ownership of the Canal House. In 1971, Historic Connersville, Inc. bought the Canal house and began to renovate it and to turn it into a museum which is what it stands as today.
