General Morgan’s raid is known as one of and the largest battle in the civil war. Morgan was able to mobilize hundreds of troops across the Ohio river by capturing two steamboats. Fighting occurred for five days until the support of 30,000 Hoosiers put an end to the raid and capture General Morgan. Later that week, Governor Oliver P. Morgan wrote a letter thanking the citizens of Indiana for their bravery and response in order to defend their land.
