Kanawha Players, Bernice Deakins, 2011. Kanawha Players is plastered in painted playbills for a variety of old and new quintessential theatre productions. The images float in front of a rich red velvet curtain reminiscent of a classic theatre stage. The name of the work references Kanawha Players, the oldest community theatre in West Virginia and also the state’s official theatre. Deakins has been involved with the organization for many years as a set designer.
