The Chinese Cultural Centre is a building in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located on the north-eastern side of downtown and was completed in September 1992.

This building was built on two separately donated land. Hence, we needed approval from the government to connect these lands. We were granted permission by the government of the city of Calgary to connect these lands. We were granted permission by the government of the city of Calgary to connect the two lands by using part of 2 nd Avenue. The style of this building was modeled after Beijing's Temple of Heaven. The Temple of Heaven was the hall of prayer for the emperor. A few hundred years ago the emperor came to the Temple to pray for good harvest, weather and prosperity of the country.

There are many buildings where you can see two stone lions standing in front of the entrances. The lions are meant to act as a guardian and protect the building. In ancient China, there were no lions, and Chinese people have never seen one. They only knew about them from books and the stories told by foreign visitors. Therefore, the lions' characteristics are far from accurate. Chinese people used to also believe that lions have curly hair. That's why the stone lions are featured with their iconic curly hair. When you see the lions closely, the lion on the left is male because it is holding a ball, and the lion on the right is female because it is holding a lion cub.

Chinese Stone Lions in the Museum

<ul><li>The pair of lion statues placed on both sides of the gate of the building is not limited to stone materials. There are also lions made of cement plus steel or fibreglass, or even made of metal, but most of them are collectively referred to as "stone lions". </li><li>The shape of traditional Chinese stone lions is different from the lions you see today. There have been no lions in China since ancient times, and the sculptors had no way to describe them. Therefore they learned from books and foreign visitors and referred to the shapes of dogs or other animals. They even added their own imaginations. Therefore, you can notice the curly hair on the head of the stone lion in front of you, which is actually different from the real lion.</li><li>Let me ask a question for everyone to guess - is the stone lion in front of you a man or a woman? The answer is... the one holding a ball on the right is a man, and the one holding a baby lion on the left is a woman. It means that the man is responsible for protecting the residence and guarding the gate; while the woman is responsible for taking care of the affairs of the house and taking care of everything. So as the name suggests, the man is in charge of the outside and the woman is in charge of the house, each with their own duties.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Stone lions are a kind of ornament often used in Chinese culture. It is usually placed on both sides of the gate of the building. It can be seen in palaces, temples, gardens, government office buildings and other places influenced by Chinese culture. Because the role of stone lions is to guard and deter evil spirits, they are regarded as auspicious beasts and are intended to protect the building.</li></ul>

Qin Shi Huang was the first emperor to rule the whole country as one China. He unified the currency, measurements, characters, etc. The Terracotta warriors are all sculpted out of clay and they are meant to protect the emperor's tomb. The warriors were first discovered by farmers digging their land and finding parts of the clay. Every army has a unique face and gesture. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting the emperor in his afterlife. The archaeologists have excavated more than eight thousand of them. The one you see now is a replica exhibited in the 1986 expo Vancouver Chinese pavilion.

Shanxi province Xi'an Terracotta Warrior - The Terracotta Army is a massive collection of terracotta sculptures made of mud depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China.

Terracotta Warrior in the museum is a part of a small collection of terracotta replicas acquired by the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre. The terracotta warriors in the museum reflect the extensive number of sculptures, found at the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. The tomb is estimated over 50 sq. km, making it the largest tomb site in China. The archeological site located at the Qin tomb is considered to be the eighth wonder of the world.The Terracotta Chariot Horses represent the war chariots of the Qin army that were drawn by four horses. The chariots are accompanied and carried by three men, equipped with one driver, the leader on the left, and a spearman on the right. In the 1980s, The Terracotta Warriors are a significant archeological embodiment of Chinese culture and history. During his reign in the Qin dynasty, Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di ordered the production of over 7,000 terracotta soldiers to surround his tomb and accompany him into the afterlife.

In 1974, the terracotta army was unexpectedly discovered outside of Xi'an, China. The extensive tomb complex unearthed thousands of infantry soldiers, including archers, and armed warriors. All soldiers were originally equipped with weapons, led by bronze chariots drawn by terracotta horses.

The most important of the 4 items are the equal number of words and obfuscated</li><li>Taking the couplet as an example, "a thousand years" and "a hundred years" also reflect the meaning of a long time. "Calgary" and "Chinatown" point out the nouns of 2 places, while "building foundation" and "survived through difficult time" have opposite meanings, and the artistic conception is chic and profound</li></ul>

It took many years to build the city of Calgary, and Chinatown has also survived a difficult and suffering era.

Couplet (Right)

<ul><li>This is a "gift couplet" created to honour others. The couplet is used to praise and show admiration for others. The couplet expresses that the receiver’s literary achievement is so high that it is comparable to famous poets Wei Wang and Fu Du.  Wei Wang was greatly influenced by Zen Buddhism, famous for his versatile talents for poetry, calligraphy, and painting. He invented ink and wash painting. Fu Du, together with the other famous poet Bai Li, were called “Li Du”. Fu Du was respectfully called “the saint of poetry”, also “the history of poetry” due to his significant social and historical achievement.</li><li>Because the works are written in cursive script, the style is unrestrained and elegant, the artistic conception is elegant and ethereal, and the brushwork and lines are full of rhythm so that the viewer can feel the tension and fluency of continuity. Maybe people generally think that cursive couplets are difficult to read, but if you really don’t know them, you don’t need to worry about them. We can appreciate the elusive lines of calligraphy handwriting, which is not bad! The beauty is not rigid, but chic and flexible</li><li>The couplet is one of the unique literary forms in China. Its wonderful combination with calligraphy has become a colorful artistic originality of the Chinese nation. Couplets are commonly known as pairs. It is simple in language and deep in meaning, neat in antithesis, and harmonious in level and oblique. It is a unique art form of the Chinese language with 1 word and 1 sound. It can be said that the art of couplets is a cultural treasure of the Chinese nation. It is a pity that fewer and fewer people hang couplets in our family rooms now. About 50 years ago, couplets were hung in the homes of personnel, sages, officials, and businessmen, which are both elegant and beautiful.</li><li>The popularity and prosperity of the couplet and its combination with the art of calligraphy have directly affected all things related to culture in the land of China. Chinese calligraphy is profound, with endless charm. Varies, 5-character and 7-character verses and 8-character sentences are the most common, covering rich content, including poems, aphorisms, proverbs and even colloquial Chinese.</li><li>Throughout the ages, calligraphers like to use couplets to reciprocate gifts and literati also like to hang couplets in their living rooms. The couplets placed in the living room mainly have 2 functions, one is the function of education and culture, and the other is the function of social communication. Therefore, the living room couplets must first reflect the cultural accomplishment of the owner, and secondly, the appreciation level of the visitors should be taken into consideration, and the style and aesthetic feeling of the couplets should be considered. I wonder if you would consider hanging a pair of couplets at home after listening to this introduction?</li></ul>

The terracotta warriors were not terracotta but colorful when they were originally made. They generally had black hair, pink faces, purple or red gowns, black armor, light green pants, and black shoes.

The bronze weapons the terra cotta army carried into the enormous tomb complex near Xi'an in western China were the real things: tens of thousands of swords, axes, spears, lances, and crossbows.

The sedan is a mode of transport that was used in ancient China. For weddings, a bridal sedan is used to take the bride to the groom's house.

The first instrument for recording earthquakes was built by the Chinese scientist Chang Heng in the second century. The original instrument did not survive, and we know of it only from descriptions of that time. It was a large bronze device about 6 ft across. It was designed to record earthquakes too slight to be felt and to tell roughly what direction the quake had come from. When the ball drops out from the dragon's mouth into the frog's mouth. It means that the direction has an earthquake. When this happens, a messenger will be sent out in that direction and rescue the situation We now call it a seismoscope.
