In the midst of Phillip Exeter Academy's sprawling campus lies the Exeter Historical Society, which came into existence in the early 20th century. Dedicated to the preservation of Exeter's deep-rooted history, the organization provides numerous avenues through which individuals can engage with the past of the town and preserve it for the future.


The Exeter Historical Society

The Exeter Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that works to preserve the history of

Exeter, educate the community and visitors to Exeter through a variety of programs and

community events. The Historical society was founded in 1928 and has been key in preserving

Exeter. The Historical Society houses maps, documents, photos, artifacts, and other intriguing

items that have been collected since 1928 and aid in displaying Exeter’s rich history. From

October to May the Historical Society creates monthly programs based on a variety of topics so

those of all ages can learn about the town’s rich history. Also, each month a short video series

called the Exeter History Minutes is produced as another resource for those interested in learning

about Exeter. The Exeter Historical Society is committed to promoting the history of Exeter and

is a great source for all things Exeter related.
