Description
As we step into the shadows of Rutgers University's historic campus, we embark on a journey through time and mystery, exploring the haunted tales that linger within its storied walls. Our first stop brings us to the enigmatic grounds of Miller Hall and the Cap and Skull Society, where the spirits of the past refuse to rest. Once a mortuary, this building is haunted by strange noises, footsteps, and unexplainable movements that defy rational explanation. Could it be the restless soul of McDede himself, or perhaps a former resident seeking retribution from beyond the grave? The answers lie hidden within the shadows of this enigmatic structure. Continuing our exploration, we arrive at the imposing structure of Old Queens, where the bell tower holds a secret of its own - the legend of the Grey Lady. High above, amidst the ancient bells, she is said to appear, a spectral figure gazing out towards the southwest before vanishing into the night. Some claim she is Catharine (Kitty) Livingston, daughter of Revolutionary War Governor William Livingston, forever searching for her lost love, Alexander Hamilton, along the banks of the Raritan River. Our journey takes us next to St. John the Evangelist Church, a site steeped in tragedy and intrigue. Here, the echoes of the past whisper tales of the Hall-Mills Murders, one of New Jersey's most notorious unsolved mysteries. Episcopalian priest Edward C. Hall and his lover, Elanor Mills, met a grisly end in 1922, their bodies discovered in a nearby orchard, surrounded by torn love letters and unanswered questions. Was it a crime of passion, or something far more sinister? Our final destination leads us to the heart of the Mason Gross School of the Arts, where the Little Theater holds its own ghostly secret. Formerly a haven for amateur performers, it is said to be haunted by the ghost of Jane Inge, a former theater director whose spirit lingers within its walls. Dressed in white, she is said to manifest during rehearsals, flickering the lights in a spectral display that defies explanation. Join us as we embark on this virtual walking tour of haunted historic sites at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, where the lines between fact and legend blur, and the spirits of the past refuse to be forgotten.
