Backstory and Context

As the Regional Transportation District ("RTD") expanded commuter rail lines into Thornton, the City and RTD decided to install unique pieces of large-scale public art at each station. The art is designed to add a sense of identity to each of the transportation hubs.
"Bloom" stands 15' tall, and is installed in the bus roundabout/traffic circle on the southwest side of the RTD station. The sculpture is designed to promote a sense of discovery and timelessness, while also serving as a visible landmark for anyone approaching the Original Thornton/88th Ave. station. On sunny days, light shines through the acrylic flower petals, casting bright colors upon the ground.
