Originally opened in 1949, Los Corrals is one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants in Kansas City. It was also one of the first Mexican restaurants in the downtown area. The restaurant opened a few blocks from this location on 9th Street, which has been the restaurant's home since 1964. According to local legend, Los Corrals was the first to serve deep-fried tacos, which continue to be one of the favorite dishes and are held together with a toothpick. The restaurant is located in a historic downtown structure that was built in 1889.
