An outgrowth of the Farm Workers and Chicano Movements of the 1970s and 1980s, this museum was established to offer a place and space for Latin American art and artists in Denver. The institution traces its heritage to the establishment of&nbsp;CHAC, the&nbsp;Chicano Humanities and Arts Council. This organization organized exhibitions of work by local artists which garnered interest among diverse residents of the city in creating a permanent gallery. From these early efforts, Museo de las Americas was founded in 1991.The Museo is an important Denver institution, especially with the rapidly-growing Latino population of the city that accompanied the establishment of CHAC. The Museo moved into its current facility in 1994 and has grown to include a permanent collection of nearly four thousand works. The collection spans the period from before Columbus and the colonial period to the years when Latin American countries secured independence and were able to&nbsp;celebrate&nbsp;their own forms of art and cultural expression. The museum has&nbsp;been recognized by the city of Denver's Award for Excellence in the Arts and the&nbsp;Martin Luther King Community Service Award.

Museo de las Americas—located in the heart of Denver’s art district —is the only museum in Colorado dedicated to the art, history and culture of Latin America and its people. The Museo houses a permanent collection of objects from across North and South America from ancient times to present. The organization was created in 1991 by community members who shared a commitment to preserve, present and promote the art and culture of the Latino people. The Museo grew rapidly in its early years and moved into its current 12,000 square foot facility in 1994. This museum offers a variety of exhibits that tell the history of Latin America and its people through art, including works of fine art as well as a collection of jewelry, masks, basketry, ceramics, and textiles.

This tour includes fifteen of the leading museums in the heart of Denver. The tour includes state-supported museums, museums dedicated to science and the arts, thematic museums such as the Denver Firefighters Museum and the Money Museum, sports and technology museums, and institutions that preserve and share the history and culture of Colorado's diverse communities. 

The Kirkland Museum features the original studio and works of Vance Kirkland (artist, educator, and collector), 6,000 works by Colorado and regional artists dating from 1820-1990, and an international decorative art collection dating from 1875-1990. Curator Hugh Grant's salon style approach to display makes the museum vibrant and unique. Though the museum is closed from May 2016 through Fall of 2017 for relocation, the original studio will be moved intact to the new Bannock Street facility in Denver's Golden Triangle Museum District [1]. Vance KirklandVance Kirkland (1904-1981) was born in Convoy, Ohio, and attended the Cleveland School of Art, the Cleveland School of Education, and Western Reserve University, studying painting, art history, and art education until 1928. In January of the following year, he moved to Denver to take a position as the founding Director of the University of Denver's School of Art at Chappell House. Kirkland left the university in 1932, establishing the Kirkland School of Art (1932-1946) at 1311 Pearl Street and gaining course accreditation through the University of Colorado. Over a hundred students were enrolled. Kirkland was offered a massive salary in 1946 if he would return to his position as Director of the School of Art at University of Denver; he accepted and stayed until 1969. During his term as Director, the School of Art became the university's largest undergraduate school. Kirkland continued to use the building at Pearl Street as his painting studio throughout his career as an educator and afterward, until his death in 1981. His 1,200 paintings are divided into five major periods (Designed Realism, Surrealism, Hard Edge Abstraction, Abstract Expressionism, and Dot Paintings) and over 33 series. He was also active in the local art community, helping establish Denver's Modern Art movement. He revealed his texturing techniques—mixing watercolor with denatured alcohol, mixing oil paint and water, and placing dots of oil paint with wooden dowels over oil and water mixtures—only shortly before his death. Kirkland had a condition known as synesthesia, which causes a person to experience one sense through another; in Kirkland's case, sensing color from hearing music. In 1981, Kirkland died childless and preceded by his wife, Anne Fox Oliphant. He left his estate to his friend Hugh Grant, who curated exhibitions for the artist in his later years [1]. The Studio Kirkland's Arts and Crafts style studio and art school building were constructed in 1910-1911 as Denver's oldest commercial art building by architects Maurice Biscoe and Henry Hewitt. Originally, the studio was built for English artist Henry Read (1851-1935) as an art school. Read helped found the Denver Artists' Club (later the Denver Art Association and now known as the Denver Art Museum) in 1893. The Club used the Pearl Street studio for meetings from 1911-1922, until they moved to Chappell House (1300 Logan, razed in 1970). The building features northern-facing skylight windows throughout to allow in natural light. It had no running water, used only coal and wood burning stoves for heat, and had electricity in only one room (which became Kirkland's workroom). The rest of the building was lit only with gaslight, oil lamps, and candles. In 1980, Kirkland added three lions (made by the Denver Brick and Terra Cotta Company c. 1900) rescued from the Flatiron Building during its remodel of 1950 [1]. The MuseumAs executor of Vance Kirkland's estate, Hugh Grant continued exhibiting Kirkland's work (among others) through the 1980s and 1990s. In 1996, Grant established the Kirkland Foundation to preserve and promote the artist's work and display his collections of decorative art and Colorado fine art. A nearly 9,000 square foot addition designed by Chip Melick and Rachel Rouiller was constructed, and the Kirkland Museum opened on April 2, 2003. The museum's collections now comprise more than 30,000 objects, including 6,000 paintings by 600 different Colorado artists, 200 of them women. The decorative art collection features Arts &amp; Crafts, Aesthetic, Art Nouveau, Galsgow Style, Wiener Werkstätte, De Stijl, Bauhaus, Art Deco, Modern, Pop Art, and Postmodern works. Over 125 architects are represented in the collections. Grant's displays have earned the museum a reputation as a unique experience. He explains his theory on presentation in several key points—the use of salon style display, in which fine art and decorative art are shown together in one room, often with pieces displayed close together (the way they would be in a home); study collection displays, where more objects are displayed per square foot; vignettes of period pieces grouped together (again, as they would be in a period home); and comparative display, in which several styles of design are shown in the same gallery [1].In 2013, it became apparent that a larger facility was needed to house the Kirkland Museum. The new building (designed by Seattle architect Olson Kundig) at 12th and Bannock in the Golden Triangle Museum District is 38,500 square feet, and set to open in the fall of 2017. With the assistance of Historic Denver, the original studio and art school building will be relocated to the new facility and oriented in the same direction in order to maintain the lighting from the north through the skylight windows [1].

Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art

History Colorado Center is a museum and civic hub where Colorado’s past meets the present and shapes its future. It is designed to provide exhibits and programming that offer a unique and rich experience for visitors. The key is a blend of technology, media, environments and artifacts. The high-tech, hands-on exhibits began opening in 2012 and have since opened in phases. They are based on three broad themes – Dreams and Aspirations, Enduring Communities, and People and the Environment.

Combined, these interactive exhibits tell the story of Colorado and its people. The events and people that shaped the state are brought to life with unique activities and exhibits. Many of the temporary exhibits offer the same depth of experience.

The Center is located in Denver’s Golden Triangle Museum District near several other key visitor attractions and restaurants. The bright and welcoming building, designed by Tryba Architects, boasts LEED Gold Certification, utilized a variety of recycled and Colorado materials.&nbsp;The museum also has a cafe and gift shop.

The largest history museum in the state of Colorado, the center includes dozens of permanent and rotating exhibits as well as lecture series and a research library. Notable exhibits include decade reviews, Colorado history, and local celebrities. The Center is operated by the Colorado Historical Society, which was established in 1879.

The Denver Art Museum’s collection of more than 70,000 works of art is divided between ten permanent collections including African, American Indian, Asian, European and American, modern and contemporary, pre-Columbian, photography, Spanish Colonial, textile, and western American art. The holdings reflect Denver and its surrounding region, providing invaluable ways for the community to learn about cultures from around the world.
Founded in 1893 as the Denver Artists' Club, the Denver Art Museum had a number of temporary homes. In 1971, the museum opened the 24-sided, two-towered North Building. Over one million faceted, shimmering gray tiles, developed by Dow Corning, provide cladding for the radical seven-story structure. This architectural icon remains the only completed project in the United States by Gio Ponti, an important Italian master of modern design.
This bold tradition continued when the Hamilton Building opened 2006. The 146,000-square-foot Frederic C. Hamilton Building, a joint venture of Daniel Libeskind and Denver-based Davis Partnership Architects, is situated directly south of the North Building. Libeskind's design, referential to the original Ponti building, recalls not only the mountain peaks that provide a powerful backdrop for the city, but the intricate and geometric rock crystals found in the foothills of the Rockies.
The Frederic C. Hamilton Building included new galleries for its permanent collection, three temporary exhibition spaces, art storage, and public amenities. It houses modern and contemporary collections as well as architecture and oceanic pieces. This building serves as the main entrance for the entire complex.

The Clyfford Still Museum opened in 2011 and is the newest addition to Denver’s burgeoning Cultural Arts District. It is located adjacent to the Denver Art Museum in the city’s Civic Center Cultural Complex. The two-story, 28,500-square-foot building was designed by Brad Cloepfil of Allied Works Architecture specifically to display Still’s work. The museum allows visitors the unique experience to understand the legacy of Clyfford Still, an artist whose life has been shrouded in mystery and the bulk of whose work has been hidden from public view for more than 30 years.
The Mission of the Clyfford Still Museum is “to advance the understanding and appreciation of Clyfford Still’s art and legacy through the presentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and stewardship of its unique collections.”
After Clyfford Still’s death in 1980, the Clyfford Still Estate was sealed off from public and scholarly view. His will stipulated that the estate be given in its entirety to an American city willing to establish a permanent museum dedicated solely to his work, ensuring its survival for exhibition and study. In August 2004, the City of Denver, under the leadership of then Mayor John W. Hickenlooper, was selected by Still’s wife, Patricia Still, to receive the substantial Still collection.&nbsp;
In 2005, Patricia Still also bequeathed to the city her own estate, which included select paintings by her husband as well as his complete archives. The Still Museum collection, which represents 95 percent of Still’s lifetime output, includes approximately 3,125 works created between 1920 and 1980.

Born in North Dakota, Still attended Spokane University. His first solo show was in 1943 at the San Francisco Museum of Art. He taught at several institutions and moved back and forth across the country a number of times before finally settling on a farm in Maryland. In 1972, he was given the Award of Merit for Painting from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 1975, he got the Skowhegan Medal for Painting.

The Clyfford Still Museum is a minimalist showcase for the large-scale paintings & archives of Clyfford Still, who is considered one of the most important painters of the 20th century. Clyfford Still (1904–1980) was among the first generation of Abstract Expressionist artists who developed a new and powerful approach to painting in the years immediately following World War II. The museum opened in 2011.

The Byers-Evans House was built in 1883 for William N. Byers. It was a stately Italianate-style home that reflected its owner’s standing in the community. Byers printed Denver’s first newspaper, the&nbsp;Rocky Mountain News, on April 23, 1859. It is still in print today. As editor, Byers used his paper to promote Denver and the surrounding region. Byers became close friends with John Evans, Colorado’s second territorial governor.&nbsp; These men - along with their wives Elizabeth Byers and Margaret Evans - played pivotal roles in Denver’s early growth by helping to establish religious, educational, legal, and social institutions.William G. Evans, the oldest son of former governor John Evans, bought the home in 1889. William and his wife Cornelia moved in with their two young children, John and Josephine.&nbsp; During the next five years, daughters Margaret and Katharine were born. An important business and civic leader in his own right, William headed the Denver Tramway Company and helped develop the Moffat Tunnel.&nbsp; Piercing the Continental Divide, the 6.2 mile tunnel culminated efforts to link Denver to Colorado’s western slope and solidified the city’s place as the region’s commercial hub. The family became instrumental in the Denver arts community, as well. The home has been restored to the period between 1912 and 1924. It includes most of the home's original furnishings. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in August of 1970. Today the home is a museum which features an art gallery and offers school programming and many special events. It also houses a gift shop featuring lots of unique Colorado-made items.

This historic Italianate-style house served as a home for two prominent Denver families. It was built for William N. Byers, the owner of the Rocky Mountain News, in 1883. William G. Evans, the head of the Denver Tramway Corporation and oldest son of former governor John Evans, bought the home in 1889. The house is operated by History Colorado and features an art gallery which showcases works reflecting the history of Denver and the Mountain West.

The Molly Brown House Museum stands as an enduring symbol of the turn of the 20th century in Denver. In the 1880s, the lucky few who made millions in the mountains, the railroads, or trade moved to the prestigious Capitol Hill neighborhood. This included Isaac and Mary Large who made their fortune in silver mining and built the house at 1340 Pennsylvania Avenue. They commissioned the well-known architect William Lang who combined the styles of Classic Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque to create a unique and eclectic home. The home contained all the modern technology of the day including electricity, indoor plumbing, heat, and telephone.The Larges sold their home to James Joseph “J.J.” and Margaret Brown in 1894.Since opening the Museum, Historic Denver has worked to save countless other Denver landmarks and increase public awareness of Denver’s unique historic structures. As more and more historic properties were demolished in the 1960s, a group of preservation-minded Denver citizens joined efforts in 1970 to rescue the home of Titanic survivor Margaret Tobin Brown. The group incorporated as Historic Denver, Inc. and began major restoration efforts in order to return the home’s interior and exterior to its early 20th century grandeur. Guided tours of the Museum reach an average of 45,000 visitors a year, sharing the story of Margaret “Molly” Brown and Denver history. Historic Denver’s Molly Brown House Museum is committed to enhancing the city’s unique identity by telling the story of Margaret “Molly” Brown’s activism, philanthropy and passion through educational programs, exhibits and stewardship. Molly Brown House Museum

The first floor of the museum houses apparatus and the museum's permanent display, which uses the steps involved in reporting and extinguishing a fire to&nbsp;trace the history of firefighting from ancient times to the present. The first exhibit shows the ways that people have reported and responded to fires, from church bells and bucket brigades to the modern system, which uses telephones and computers to dispatch emergency responders. The next phase of the museum shows the kinds of equipment that firefighters used and wore to protect themselves over the past century. And of course, the highlights of the first floor are the restored hand-pulled, horse-drawn, and gasoline-powered&nbsp;fire engines.&nbsp; The museum's second floor offers special exhibits that change throughout the year, as well as an exhibit that shows how firefighter have lived and trained over the past century.&nbsp;The museum offers a variety of special events throughout the year, including&nbsp;programs for children and families as well as reunions of&nbsp;retired firefighters. There are also summer day camps for youth where young people train in&nbsp;the skills and discipline required in the fire service. Unique among museums of its kind, the Denver Firefighters Museum offers a research library full of historic books, photographs, and documents that may be inspected by researchers on site.

This local history museum offers exhibits and artifacts that trace the history of the Denver Fire Department from its earliest days to the present, with demonstrations of historic and modern equipment. The museum dates back to the efforts of some of the city's first professional firefighters to collect and preserve photographs, documents, and historic firefighting equipment. This collection has been housed in the city's first fire station (built in 1909) for decades, and has grown steadily through the years. Some of the artifacts date back to the era when this historic fire station housed horse-drawn equipment, prior to the department's purchase of gasoline-powered apparatus in the mid-1920s. 

Denver Firefighters Museum

The Colorado Hall of Fame was actually founded in 1964, but the permanent museum opened in 2001, after Broncos stadium was completed.&nbsp;The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum showcases key moments and important sports figures in Colorado's state history. The museum offers a wide variety of exhibits, including a Denver Broncos exhibit and another exhibit&nbsp;where children can try on uniforms and equipment from Colorado's sports teams.&nbsp; The first class that was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame was in April of 1965.&nbsp;More than 200 sports figures have been inducted since. They not only include professional and college athletes, but also high school. The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum partnered with local academic institutions in order to involve students in the project.&nbsp; Colorado's finest athletes, coaches, and industry leaders are inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame every year. These people have demonstrated characteristics of sportsmanship, leadership, courage, sacrifice, endurance, and power. Exhibits include: A Snapshot of Women in Sports, The Denver Broncos Franchise, Gallery of Legends, Kid's Zone, and Salute to the Inductees.

The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum opened in August of 2001. The museum exists to honor those individuals who merit recognition and distinction for their exploits, accomplishments, and leadership in sports and athletic endeavors in Colorado. It is located on the west side of Sports Authority Field at Mile High and exposes visitors to Colorado sports history. There is a fee for tours, but museum admission is free.

Children's Museum of Denver opened its current building in 1984 and completed a
substantial expansion in 2015. The hands-on, interactive exhibits are targeted
toward newborn through eight-year-olds. The museum also offers a café, shop, school

The Altitude Exhibit
features "mountain" climbing, a gondola ride, a swaying bridge, and a
camping area for kids over 40 inches tall. For those under the height limit,
Box Canyon offer toddler climbing, a kayak themed ride, and an indoor
"waterfall" kids can run through without getting wet. Big Backyard
features animal costumes and animal habitat-style playgrounds. Center for the
Young Child, for ages 0-3, is a woodland-themed playroom with pond, meadow, and
grove themed areas. The Book Nook offers several daily storytimes and a puppet
theater, while kids can play firefighter, dentist, veterinarian, or store clerk
and cook at the Fire Station No. 1, Village of Healthy Smiles, Ready Vet Go!, and
My Market (featuring real local produce) Exhibits. The Bubbles Exhibit features
a bubble booth, bubble "drop zone", giant bubble making, vapor lab,
and solution station. The Energy Exhibit offers an "energy quest" to
power a hot air balloon, rocket building, erector set racing, a solar symphony,
an air-powered light show, and a whoopee cushion wall, while the Kinetics!
giant physics playground features ramps, tracks, and ball runs. At the Water
Exhibit, kids can create their own thunderstorm, launch a geyser, create a
vortex, play with water jets, build boats and dams in a river model, and create
music and art with water. The Art Studio offers daily programming, painting, and
clay sculpting, while the Assembly Plant lets kids build and decorate their own
creations using recycled materials, and D.I.Y. lets kids build their own structures
big enough to walk through. The Teaching Kitchen offers daily programming
including cooking classes, demonstrations, and workshops for kids of all ages, as
well as an aquaponic vegetable garden. Outside, the Joy Park offers a variety
of activities, including a zip line, play river, fort building, sandbox, straw
bale maze, apple picking, and boat racing [1].

Children's Museum of Denver - Marsico Campus

The Federal Reserve Bank in Denver is a branch of the Kansas City bank which is the Federal Reserve Bank for the region. The museum teaches about the history of the Federal Reserve System which was created in 1913 when President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act into law. It was initially formed to prevent future bank “panics” such as the one that occurred in 1907. It has since evolved into an economic entity that seeks to maximize employment, stabilize prices, and moderate long-term interest rates.

The museum permits visitors to design their own currency and attempt to detect which is a real $20 bill and which is counterfeit. It also gives visitors the chance to take a photo in front of $30 million worth of $100 bills (and it takes up more space than you might think). One can also view a range of American currency dating back to 1775, a $100,000 bill and coins produced at the nearby mint which contain various deformities.&nbsp;

Since the bank also destroys $2-$3 million daily, visitors are given a bag of shredded money as a souvenir of their visit. Finally, as visitors approach (or leave) the museum on foot, they often hear strange sounds emanating from the sidewalk, and many spend a few minutes attempting to convince themselves that they are not hearing things.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Located within the Denver branch of the Federal Reserve Bank, the Denver Money Museum utilizes interactive and interpretive displays to impart knowledge to visitors about the Federal Reserve System, its history, economics and monetary policies. This modest museum offers both self-guided audio tours and guided tours for groups of the 5th-grade level and above with a reservation. Walk-ins are welcome and admission is free. However, adults 18 and older are required to show a valid state or national ID to gain admittance.

The Denver Money Museum

Bruce B. Hellerstein is the creator of B's Ballpark Museum. He first learned about baseball when he was in the second grade during a show and tell assignment thanks to one of his fellow classmates. Quickly after learning, he asked his parents to take him to a game. Thereafter, Bruce was a baseball player. He was a member of every type of league you could possibly name! From little league to the semi pros, he thoroughly contributed to the game as a pitcher. Bruce graduated from the University of Denver with an accounting degree. Once he graduated, Bruce decided to lean into EGT taxation and planning. He chose to join his love for baseball with his career; therefore, creating B's Ballpark Museum. The museum is a non-profit organization which launched in July of 2010. There are several ways to contribute to this non-profit organization.How does a non-profit organization thrive, such as B's Ballpark Museum? Volunteers are considered as crucial for any non-profit organization. In addition, donations are accepted for B's Ballpark Museum. Planned giving is another way B's Ballpark Museum grows on a daily basis. This consists of any collectables that may be valuable to the museum itself. The National Ballpark Museum is commonly recognized as B's Ballpark Museum. It is an amazing tribute to baseball stadiums around the nation! The museum relies less on the game and more on where the game takes place, inside of the park! Once you walk in, it is like one unique stadium that has an accumulation of keepsakes from different ballparks! You can expect to see bricks from old ballparks, books, photos, jerseys, and even stadium seats! Located in Downtown Denver, it is perfect for all ages who love the game or anyone who is interested in learning about baseball! Tickets range from being free to being $10. You are welcome to tour the museum every Tuesday through Saturday; although, sometimes business hours vary due to B's accounting career. 

B's  Ballpark Museum

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The actual museum is found in the house of Dr. Justina
Ford who was Colorado’s first African American female doctor.&nbsp; There are several things and exhibits to see
at the museum. One of these exhibits includes the homestead exhibit.&nbsp; Its focus is mainly on Dearfield Colorado
which was an African American town dedicated by O.T. Jackson in 1910.&nbsp; For a while it was a busy community of about
500 citizens who followed the ideas of Booker T. Washington.&nbsp; It lasted until the 1930s but due to the
depression, dry weather, and dust storms the majority of the town’s citizens
returned to the cities.&nbsp; In the beginning
of the 1940s approximately 12 people lived in the town but soon they too
left.&nbsp; It is now a ghost town and the museum
is in possession of a great amount of its property.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The museum has an exhibit on the Black cowboys as well,
some of them well known and others less known.&nbsp;
As part of this exhibit the museum has saddles, spurs, hats, chaps, shoes,
and other items used by cowboys.&nbsp; The
museum also has military exhibits that reveal the tale of the Buffalo
Soldiers.&nbsp; The Buffalo Soldiers were the
African American cavalry and infantry that played a significant role in
establishing the West.&nbsp; There is another
military exhibit that is focused on the Tuskegee airmen and their importance in
WWII.&nbsp; Along with several pictures and timelines,
the museum owns uniforms, saddles, weapons, and other items used by Western
soldiers.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Along with exhibits the museum has several documentaries
on African Americans in the West.&nbsp; Also
the museum has a bookstore upstairs that contains many books with information
on the Old West and the African Americans that played a role in creating
it.&nbsp; Visitors can also discuss any
questions they have with the museum employees.1&nbsp;
The museum is open to visitors Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm.

	The Black American West Museum was created by Paul W. Stewart in 1971.  The museum’s focus is to gather, preserve, and broadcast the ways in which African Americans were a part of the Old West.  At first it was created to share the tale of the “Black Cowboys.”  However, overtime it has transformed to share the tales of the first African Americans in the west and their lives as miners, soldiers, home and property owners, cowboys, Blacksmiths, educators, lawmen, and several other jobs that were desired for the West.

The Forney Museum of Transportation is a non-profit organization which exists to collect, preserve, and exhibit items of artistic, historical and technological interest relating to transportation for the purposes of education and personal enrichment.

J.D. Forney was also the founder of Forney Industries. He
began a door-to-door business in 1932 selling the Forney Instant Heat Soldering
Iron. He later invented a welder that was intended to be used outside the
industrial setting. 


The Forney Museum of Transportation has a collection of over 600 artifacts relating to this history of transportation. It began as a private collection, when Forney, became interested in antique and classic cars after his wife and children gave him a 1921 Kissel Tourister in 1955. Mr. Forney started taking in old cars and carriages as trades for the sales from Forney Industries. The collection has since grown to include buggies, motorcycles, steam locomotives, aircraft, carriages, rail equipment, fire apparatus, public transportation, sleighs, bicycles, toys and diecast models, vintage apparel and much more. When his collection outgrew his space, he joined forces with
Dr. James Arneill, a local physician. The two created the nonprofit and created
the museum. The museum moved to its present location, a renovated food
distribution warehouse, in 2000. The oldest piece in the facility is an
all-wood bicycle that dates back to 1817.

The Forney Transportation Museum is a transport museum located in Denver, Colorado. Names after its founder, J.D. Forney, the museum began as a private collection in 1921. It became a museum in 1961, and a non-profit organization in 1964.

<h4>History of the Museum</h4>
Edwin Carter was born in upstate New York around 1830 and moved to Breckenridge, CO, where he lived from 1860 to 1900. During this time, Carter began collecting animal and bird specimens for display in an attempt to preserve the memory of Colorado’s fauna before they were destroyed by the hydraulic mining that was destroying the environment at that time. In 1875, Carter built a log cabin museum with high ceilings to showcase his collection. Following fundraising campaigns and Carter’s death in 1900, the Museum of Nature and Science took his collection and gave it a more prestigious, protective building.&nbsp;
Soon after the museum’s incorporation, crystalline gold specimens from John F. Campion and butterflies and moths from John T. Mason were added to the collection. Over the 20th century, the museum vastly expanded its collection with ancient fossils, gems and minerals, majestic wildlife, discoveries from outer space, Egyptian mummies, exhibits about the human body, and much more.

Nowadays, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science houses over a million objects in its collections with a goal of empowering a community that loves, understands, and protects the natural world. The permanent collection on display at the museum is divided into eight divisions, including:
<ul><li>Discovery Zone — hands-on educational center geared toward children.&nbsp;</li><li>Egyptian Mummies — includes two mummies and their tomb artifacts.</li><li>Expedition Health — exhibits on the changing and adapting human body.</li><li>Gems &amp; Minerals — a re-created mine full of local and global minerals.</li><li>North American Indian Culture — showcases the&nbsp;diversity and archaeological discoveries from various Native Americans groups.</li><li>Prehistoric Journey — traces the evolution of life on Earth.</li><li>Space Odyssey — exhibitions about the Universe and the Earth’s place in it.</li><li>Wildlife Exhibits — Dioramas showing scenes of life among many different animals.</li></ul>







Other aspects of the museum include&nbsp;its temporary exhibits, planetarium shows, lectures, special events, IMAX films, and a variety of other projects and programs.&nbsp;

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is an independent, nonprofit museum dedicated to informal science and the natural history of Colorado, Earth, and the Universe. With over 500,000-square-feet of interior space along with more than one million objects in its collections, which includes natural history and anthropological materials as well as archival and library materials. 

Founded in 1900, the museum traces its origins back to pioneer and naturist Edwin Carter, who assembled one of the most comprehensive collections of Colorado fauna in his log cabin home, called the Carter Museum. To protect this collection in a larger, fireproof building, funds were collected and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science was incorporated on December 6, 1900. Over the course of its history, the museum has added the Phipps Auditorium (1940), the Gates Planetarium (1968), an IMAX theater (1983), and the Leprino Family Atrium and Anschutz Family Sky Terrace (2002).
