The museum would not be the art museum it is today without the significant contributions from Frederick R Weisman and Frank D Gehry. Weisman, the museum’s namesake, provided a generous donation to build the University of Minnesota art museum a new building. This Minnesota native was a successful businessman and contemporary art collector who died one year after the museum’s initial opening.
