The Lais House is located in a prominent location in the Old City of Sacramento. The building is 2.5 stories and 6,500 square feet. It is considered one of the finest examples of Queen Anne architecture in the Old City. Given its age and significant in spite of damage by a fire in 1980, the structure is in remarkably good condition.
At the time that the home was commissioned, Charles Lais was an employee of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The Lais family used one floor of the home as their residence and the upper floor for boarding.
